Autumn's Epic Dance from John Torres on Vimeo.
Autumn ran for class president [and sadly lost to the well-deserved Daniel Witzel] and said her speech and did her whole spiel. But Autumn was original. Instead of just leaving it at a speech, she decided to do something no one else has ever done. Just watch the video, yeah?

Come Back Dominique.
Come Back Dominique. from John Torres on Vimeo.
Cameraman: Harrison Lynch

CoDirector:Izzy S.
There was once a time when High Tech High North County was happy. An amazing person named DOMINIQUE existed at this school, and made it fun, happy, and exciting. Most well known by her "Dominique Laugh", style, and so much more, she easily became everyone's favorite person.
But this source of happiness has left us.
John Torres [me] and Harrison Lynch created a video depicting what High Tech High is without Dominique, and why we need her back.
Come back Dominique.

A World of Difference: Pt. 2
The final day of the ADL workshop was even better than the first. In just one day, I noticed the group got much closer, and we definitely had a lot of fun.
We spent most of the day practicing different "Ice-breaker" activities. We broke up into groups and led everyone in an Ice Breaker.

The Final Activity
This was the final activity of the day. (forgetting it's name). The point of it was to point out someone who stood out to you in the past 2 days, and throw the string to them, creating a giant, unique web...then we let it fall.

And finally, the Whole Group
This was definitely the most fun I've had this year. It wasn't just learning all these facilitation skills, I also got a chance to meet a lot of new people from the other High Tech Highs. Hoping for another one of these in the future.

Johnny (aka Lord Necro) and his Stapled Hand
One boring morning at High Tech High, Johnny decides to staple his hand...on purpose. Why? Just because, apparently.

Invisble Children
Thanks to Daniel Witzel (our new School President), we were able to watch a screening of the new Invisible Children movie coming out. It was obvious that everyone was very interested, and there wasn't a dry eye anywhere.

Rep. speakers from Invisible Children
Overall, it was a really powerful movie, that gave us all the opportunity to see what's going on. At the end, they were selling, shirts, bracelets, and other items to help the Invisible Children in Uganda, but it was so crowded, I couldn't even get a picture of it.
Daniel really did a great job with this one.

"A World of Difference", Part I
View from High Tech High Media Arts
Susan recently appointed a few students and I to be representatives for High Tech High North County at an "Anti-Defimation League" seminar. The point of the workshop was to inform us about ways to handle situations, in terms of racism, sexism, prejudice, etc. Then, we should take back what we learned to our own school, and spread the word.
About 8:00 am
We needed to meet at school at 6:45, just so we could make it there in time. Definitely a pain.
Starbucks: A necessity
Hard to resist going to Starbucks when it's right on campus.

The Gossip Exercise
No wonder the movie wouldn't load...
After that, we broke up into groups and did a lot of other exercises. They were all great ways to get to know each other, and different ways to respond to certain situations.More to come tomorrow!

Failed Attempts at Light Painting
Light painting exposure shots aren't best done at daytime. Even in a dark bathroom, it still doesn't work out very well.
Jordan's "ART"
Chris (the only one that worked)
Other than trying some light painting, it was a pretty standard day.
Pablo being cool
John's Random George Bush portrait
Mr. Fozi put it on the board as a joke
(and no, I highly doubt anyone in our class actually supports him by the way)
John, but this time with a Dog?
And finally, Bernie making "Gang Symbols"...with scissors"

Multimedia Project: Phone Call
Phone Call from John Torres on Vimeo.
This was the first video project we've done in Multimedia class. It was, for most of us (including myself) the first time using Final Cut Pro. Although it was fairly challenging working with a totally new medium, and a completely new program, it was probably the best learning experience I've had so far. In less than a week, I've learned almost all the essentials of Final Cut, and ready for the complicated stuff.
The point of the "Phone Call"project is to create a conversation between two characters of totally different movies, to create a realistic scene. Mr. D provided us with various clips of people talking on the phone. From those, we had to make cuts at whatever sections necessary, to create the illusion of the characters speaking to each other.
I thought I did a fairly OK job with mine, though I wish I could've gone farther with it. But of course, I needed to meet my deadline. Hope you enjoyed it!
